Dear ladies and gentlemen:
Thank you for the warm welcome. It’s an honor to be here today. I’m here on a mission. I have an important message. I’m convinced it will change your life. English is everywhere. English is a key to success. We must learn and master it.
So many of us study English like hell. So few of us can speak it well. What do you think is the reason? The problem is right here! The problem is remembering. The problem is that we forget what we learn.
Luckily , through years of research ，we’ve created a new way to learn . With this specially designed material and method, we can retain what we learn forever. It’s called One Breath English.
What is One Breath English? Why shall we learn it, what it all about?
First, it’s a breakthrough technique. It’s easy to remember. It’s designed to be memorized. Repeat nine lines like crazy. Speak as fast as you can. Say it within five seconds. It will become second nature. It will be ingrained in your memory. You will remember it for the rest of your life.
Second, the material is full of life. It’s not boring book English. It’s the core essence of daily American speech. The content is uplifting. It’s considerate and polite. People will like what you say. You’ll gain confidence. You’ll communicate better. You’ll become a better person.

Because when it comes to the defining challenges of our time - whether it’s climate change, or economic opportunity, or the spread of nuclear weapons...these are shared challenges.

No one country can confront them alone...the only way forward is together.

And that’s when the connections you make as classmates or lab mates can blossom into something more.That’s what happened when Abigail Coplin became an American Fulbright Scholar here at Peking University. She and her colleagues published papers together in top science journalsand they both research partnerships that lasted long after they returned to their home countries.

China is currently the fifth most popular destination for Americans studying abroad. And today, the highest number of exchange students in the U.S.are from China.

But still, too many students never have this chanceand some that do are hesitant to take it.

They may feel like study abroad is only for wealthy students, or students from certain kinds of universities. Or they may think to themselves: “Well, that sounds fun, but how will it really be useful in my life”

I understand where these young people are coming from, because I felt the same way when I was in college. You see, I came from a working class familyand it never even occurred to me to study abroad. In 1997, Hilary Clinton made a famous speech in Beijing about women’s rights. Sadly many of the things she wanted to change are still a reality today. But what stood out for me the most was that only 30 per cent of her audience were male. Men—I would like to take this opportunity to extend your formal invitation. Gender equality is your issue too. Because to date, I’ve seen my father’s role as a parent being valued less by society despite my needing his presence as a child as much as my mother’s.

I’ve seen young men suffering from mental illness unable to ask for help for fear it would make them look less “macho”—in fact in the UK suicide is the biggest killer of men between 20-49; eclipsing road accidents, cancer and coronary heart disease. I’ve seen men made fragile and insecure by a distorted sense of what constitutes male success. Men don’t have the benefits of equality either.

We don’t often talk about men being imprisoned by gender stereotypes but I can see that they are and that when they are free, things will change for women as a natural consequence. If men don’t have to be aggressive in order to be accepted, women won’t feel compelled to be submissive. If we stop defining each other by what we are not and start defining ourselves by what we are—we can all be freer and this is what HeForShe is about. It’s about freedom. I don’t know if I am qualified to be here. All I know is that I care about this problem. And I want to make it better. And having seen what I’ve seen—and given the chance—I feel it is my duty to say something. English statesman Edmund Burke

In my nervousness for this speech and in my moments of doubt I’ve told myself firmly—if not me, who, if not now, when. If you have similar doubts when opportunities are presented to you I hope those words might be helpful. Because the reality is that if we do nothing it will take 75 years, or for me to be nearly a hundred before women can expect to be paid the same as men for the same work. 15.5 million girls will be married in the next 16 years as children. 【疯狂短评】肯尼迪总统的那句“Ask not what your country can do for you， ask what you can do for your country。”成了千古绝唱，为世人广为传颂。我们可以将他这个句子中的鱼骨抽出来，造出不少同样铿锵有力，同样震撼人心的句子。
Ask not what China can do for you， ask what you can do for China。 （不要问中国能为你做什么，问问你能为中国做什么。）
